To extend our team in Enschede, Service2Media is looking for a system administrator to maintain and support the Linux/Unix environment.

Responsibilities:

Systems Administrator to maintain and support the Linux/Unix environment

-          Ensure the reliable, correct operation of production services with 24×7 uptime

-          Implement scalable, multi-architecture network based services

-          Write automation and monitoring tools for the maintenance of said systems

-          Work with development groups as a partner to meet company goals, identify solutions to problems and proactively seek improvements in reliability and the performance systems

-          Maintain a working knowledge of all documented processes and procedures, suggest improvements as necessary

-          Identifies opportunities for improvements in efficiency and responsiveness, makes recommendations and assists to implement efficiencies

 

Required Qualifications:

-          Speaks and writes English and Dutch fluently

-          Have a BSc or MSc degree in computer science  or a related subject

-          Good analytical and communication skills

-          Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts ( layer 2 and layer 3 high performance techniques)

-          5+ years experience as an administrator in a large, heterogeneous environment, including at least 2 years experience each as a systems administrator in Linux environments (Debian)

-          Experience in: configuration of mail systems, system installation and configuration, printer systems, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software

-          Solid understanding of a UNIX-based operating system, including paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, system calls, and filesystem concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions)

-          Experience with infrastructure applications, user-facing applications (e.g. Apache, Glassfish, Tomcat, MySQL, PHP) and services (e.g. Samba, SSH, CVS, Subversion)

-          Experience with OS and application troubleshooting tools (e.g. sar, vmstat, iostat, dstat, truss, strace, DTrace)

-          Ability to write scripts in some administrative language

-          Knowledge of monitoring and alarming systems and techniques

-          Although programming experience is not required, scripting in bash has little or no secrets for you

-          An intimate knowledge of the OS and it’s interaction with software is a must
